Roman Numerals?

When did the US stop stamping Roman Numerals on gold coins. I got an '87 that has them but my '92's don't have them. Any reasons why they stopped doing this?

1991 was the last year of the roman numerals. I don't know why they stopped, because I liked them better myself. Maybe people complained because they were too lazy to figure them out.

Yeah, too bad. Probably for the best though as the regime wanted to remove any comparisons to the Romans as they built a worldwide empire of their own.

Does anyone know if they changed the "filler" in the 90% gold coins along the way? My ones with the Roman numerals seem a bit more yellowish than the newer ones that have a darker tone. Could just be reflection and my eyes also since the early ones seem a little shinier.
